This whole project started because I passed out early on my new couch. I woke up at 1am completely refreshed and, for whatever reason, decided this was the moment to rebuild my personal website. Dev logs n’ all.
Recently I was chatting with another professional in my network and he mentioned an upcoming project using a modern web stack that instantly grabbed my attention. I decided to just lean into it and use the same stack for my site, that stack being TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node, Supabase, Vitest, and Playwright.
It sounded intriguing enough, so phase one was simple: crack open Figma and start drawing crude diagrams, then refine as I go:
Any sense of style or palette cohesion went completely out the window… but that’s fine for now. It gave me enough structure to get started.
I fetched some of the color pallette I used in my business cards, and match the website as closely as I can to that. Give or take.
At this point, I’m itching to actually get something cracking with the tech stack, so I’m moving on to setup. Woohoo!
Which, was actually surprisingly simple to setup: It was literally the command: npx create-next-app --yes
Fire it up on local host, and voila. First impressions are generally quite good; I'm pleasantly surprised how snappy the hot-reloading is, and how Next handles routing through folder hierarchies. Definitely been a nice experience so far!
